On Novenber 16th 2019, the first international seminar focusing on congenital aural atresia and directly targeting patients as held in China. The seminar was attended by 46 patients from 8 countries. As the main keynote speake of this international conference, Professor Kesser provided patients with a detailed popular science explanation of knowledge related to congenital aural atresia, covering aspects from the mother’s pregnancy, the child’s birth, diagnosis, daily life. and study to hearing restoration methods. Afterwards, an assessment was conducted to determine whether each patient was eligible for surgery based on their individual conditions. Finally, the two-day seminar concluded successfully, and every participating patient gained valuable insights.

We only recommend children aged 3 and above to attend the meeting, as surgery is only applicable to children aged 6 and above. Children need to results of Temporal Bone CT and Pure Tone Audiometry to assess their suitability for surgery to restore hearing.

Requirements for the temporal bone CT:

  • It should include Axial and Coronal views;

  • The CT resolution should be less than 1mm, prefeably 0.65 mm;

  • Please advise the doctor to clearly image the Stapes

  • Temporal bone CT scans obtained within the past six months are valid

The conference will be held on the morning of the October 18th 2025. Starting from the afternoon, each patient will have a 30 minute one-on-one consultation. during the consultation, the patient will learn whether their child is suitable for restoring hearing through ear canal opening surgery.
